Handmade ceramic gold crescent moon cup made with dark chocolate/black clay using the pinching technique. Starting with a ball of speckled clay, I poke a hole through the center with my thumb and begin pinching the clay into a cup shape. The crescent moons on both sides of the cup are carved once the cup is leather hard. After firing, I used a combination of white and blue glazes to achieve this unique blue gray color on the inside and edge of the cup. The pieces was finished after a third gold luster firing.
This cup was inspired by the crescent moon. The crescent moon represents the divine feminine and symbolizes intuition, psychic visions, and creation. I use this symbol often in my ceramics as a reminder of the life cycle and our connection with the earth and sky.
The size of this cup is approximately 2 3/4” high x 3 1/2” in diameter though each cup will vary slightly in size and shape since they are all hand formed. It is recommended that you hand wash these cups as the gold luster can scratch.
